Otilia Madera is a self-taught painter from Chile, she started painting the year 2000 in Sweden.
She came to Sweden as a refugee and carries with her a lifetime search for the deep expression of her yearning for home, and for her new foreign reality in Sweden.

Her technic is acrylic on canvas. Her colorfull and ornamental motifs are sometimes mirrors of her surroundings in Scandinavia and also of a retired, and for many unknown environment far away, squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean.

Her expressionism can be found not only in this harmonic use of colour but also in the copious number of dreamlike symbolic figures such as human bodies and natural motifs that complement and enrich each other. In this down to earth mosaic of colour and form she finds her inspiration source.

Her art can be interpreted as an expression of her complicated and painful life immigrants usually understand but she gladly turns that in her paintings into harmonic nature and playing children with different feelings and characteristics.
